Stratford Community Players is pleased to announce our Student Scholarship Award was presented to Amy Zehr on Friday, February 20, 2010 by Scott Mountain, Elizabeth Cooper and Mary Dolan Bohnert. Amy is a first year student at the University of Windsor who graduated in June of 2009 from St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford. Amy was accepted into the BFA Performance Acting program where she will complete four years of theatre training before pursuing a lifelong career in acting.
Amy has been an active volunteer in less formal theatre organizations. In grade 11 she co-wrote and directed a modern rendition of the old Christmas Story for Avon Mennonite Church. She has also spent countless hours spent as a member of St. Michael’s Drama Club. Since grade 9 she has been an Assistant Stage Manager, director, and actor.
Amy has also taken her academic challenges seriously. In grade 12 drama she received an 86 percent and the averaged a grade 12 (university course level) of 91 percent. Upon graduation she received her French immersion certificate and awards for drama class, participation and dedication to the drama club, pursuing drama, English, history, and French. Due to her range of interests and commitment, she also received the St. Michael’s Major Letter Award.
A lot of Amy's involvement in the community is centered on high school. She was a peer mentor for two years as well as an assistant for Karen Zwakenberg with a program called High On Life. Students in grade nine had the opportunity to learn more about drugs and the effect they have one your body, mind, and relationships. Outside of school she initiated a group of youth to sponsor a child in Uganda. This was not only a financial commitment but the promise to write and pray for "their child". Finally this spring, Amy joined a team of youth traveling to El Salvador where they saw the varying degrees of poverty and formed a new definition of the words justice and human rights.
Please join me in congratulating Amy on her outstanding work and for demonstrating a true commitment to her community, school and world.
We would like to thank Scotiabank for sponsoring the Stratford Community Players Sponsorship Program once again, for 2010.

Besides putting on a production every year we at SCP attempt to give back to the community by providing support in whatever way we can. After each production we give a portion of our proceeds to a charity or community group. Most recently, in 2008, we supported the Wig Room at Knox Presbyterian Church, and the Cook-Reese Water Safety Fund. In 2009, we supported the Kiwanis Music Festival with a financial award in numerous categories, and the Young Kids Campaign at the Stratford Perth YMCA.
